However, due to population aging and a shortage of essential medical personnel, there have been ongoing demands to increase medical school quotas, and the government is pursuing a plan to increase the quota by about 1,000 students.
The government views the starting point for the expansion of medical school quotas as the 2025 university entrance exam, which will be taken by current high school sophomores.
The reform of the National Pension, one of the three major reform tasks of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration (labor, education, pension), will also be discussed. On the 13th, the Financial Calculation Committee under the Ministry of Health and Welfare decided to add a proposal to raise the income replacement rate (the ratio of pension benefits to lifetime average income) to 45% or 50% in the final advisory plan for National Pension reform.
From the government, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Lee Ju-ho, and Minister of Health and Welfare Cho Kyu-hong are expected to attend. From the Presidential Office, Chief Secretary Kim Dae-gi and Senior Secretary for Political Affairs Lee Jin-bok will participate. From the ruling party, Representative Kim Ki-hyun and Floor Leader Yoon Jae-ok will join.
