Lee Young-sook, Gold Prize Winner of Gwangjin-gu Miso Photo Contest, Selected for 'Sympathy'
Award Ceremony for the 24th Beautiful Smile Photo Contest Held at Naru Art Center on the 13th
- Gold Prize awarded to Lee Young-sook's 'Sympathy', Silver Prize to Kim Seok-nam's 'Meaning of Happiness', and others selected
The award ceremony for the 24th Beautiful Smile Photo Contest, hosted by Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho), was held on the 13th at the Naru Art Center exhibition hall.
The Beautiful Smile Photo Exhibition, organized by the Gwangjin-gu branch of the Korea Photographers Association and hosted by Gwangjin-gu, is a nationwide photo contest held since 2000 with the theme of beautiful smiles.
This year’s contest, held from September 1 to October 4, received a total of 360 submissions, with 11 winning prizes and 54 receiving honorable mentions.
Prize-winning works receive cash prizes and certificates as follows: one Gold Prize of 1,000,000 KRW, two Silver Prizes of 500,000 KRW each, three Bronze Prizes of 300,000 KRW each, and five Encouragement Prizes of 200,000 KRW each. Honorable mentions receive certificates.
This year, Lee Young-sook was honored with the Gold Prize for her work titled “Sympathy.” It was praised for beautifully expressing the inner smile shared through eye contact with a young child.
The Silver Prizes went to Kim Seok-nam’s “Meaning of Happiness” and Ahn Sung-sook’s “Happy Smile.” The Bronze Prizes were awarded to Hong Seung-joon’s “Happiness,” Choi Song-ok’s “Joy,” and Han Doo-yeol’s “Smile of Joy 2.”
Chairman of the judging panel, Kwon Soon-sik, commented, “This contest stood out for its creativity and imagination, as well as the effort to capture the momentary smile.”

The judging results are published on the Korea Photographers Association website, and the winning works can be viewed at the Naru Art Center exhibition hall until the 14th.
District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said, “Looking at the winning works, I feel that a smile is a universal language,” and added, “I hope the Beautiful Smile Photo Exhibition will be a source of positive energy and strength for many people.”
