Korea-Japan Women Journalists Discuss Solutions for Low Birthrate and Gender Equality
Korean and Japanese female journalists gathered in one place to share their concerns about gender discrimination and seek solutions.
The Korean Women Journalists Association announced on the 13th that it held the Korea-Japan Women Journalists Forum under the theme of 'Communication, Understanding, Cooperation' at the Press Center International Conference Hall in Jung-gu, Seoul.
This event was organized for female journalists from both Korea and Japan to share their concerns about gender discrimination experienced in the field and society and to seek solutions. Korea and Japan share the commonality of having some of the lowest gender equality indices and total fertility rates in the world.

In his congratulatory speech, Lee Ju-ho, Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs and Minister of Education, mentioned Claudia Goldin, a Nobel Prize-winning economist from Harvard University, saying, "Professor Goldin has shown interest in Korea's low birthrate issue and emphasized that all sectors of society, including the government and businesses, must work together to address childbirth, childcare, and education problems." He added, "The government of the Republic of Korea is also striving with various stakeholders to solve social challenges through education," and stated, "We aim to minimize the burden of private education expenses and create an environment where children can be raised safely within public education to contribute to overcoming low birthrates."
