"University Admission Bribery of 10 Million Won"... Soccer Training Center Director Sentenced to Prison
The head of a soccer training center who embezzled tens of millions of won from parents by promising to get their sons admitted to university was sentenced to prison.
According to the legal community on the 14th, Judge Jo Aram of the Criminal Division 7 at the Seoul Eastern District Court sentenced A (57), who was indicted for fraud, to 8 months in prison.
A was charged with demanding 10 million won as a gratuity for his son's university admission from the victim in May 2013, and subsequently demanding money several times, receiving a total of 69 million won over nine occasions until April 2015. It was revealed that A had no intention or ability to get the son admitted to university from the beginning and planned to use the money for personal purposes such as gambling and living expenses.

The court explained the sentencing by stating, "The defendant repeatedly embezzled money and did not compensate for the damage, only repaying part of the amount after the trial began," and "considering the defendant’s prior record of three fines and one suspended prison sentence for similar crimes."
