Earlier, in June, Myongji University was selected for the Ministry of Education’s ‘2023 Semiconductor Specialized University Support Project (Co-growth Type).’ The city’s support for Myongji University aims to nurture next-generation semiconductor talent by reflecting regional characteristics.
Through this agreement, the city plans to provide a total of 400 million KRW over four years from next year until 2027 to Myongji University.
Myongji University will operate job training programs for semiconductor faculty development and capacity enhancement, job retraining for local industry workers, and courses to strengthen capabilities in applying new technologies. Additionally, it plans to hold semiconductor special lectures for local residents and semiconductor camps for youth.
Meanwhile, on the same day, Myongji University held a kickoff ceremony with Hoseo University, which was also selected for the Semiconductor Specialized University Support Project as part of a consortium. The consortium will receive a total of 28 billion KRW over four years until 2027 through this selection.
The two universities will establish an innovative education system reflecting industry demands, create new related departments and specialized curricula, promote practical training and project education linked to corporate sites, improve infrastructure such as faculty and facilities, and foster a university-centered semiconductor education environment including employment and further education support.
In particular, Myongji University will specialize in semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment by establishing and operating the Department of Semiconductor Engineering and the Semiconductor Process Diagnosis Research Institute. Hoseo University will establish and operate departments related to post-packaging processes and the Package Technology Innovation Center. Practical courses for undergraduates and industry workers will also be offered.
The agreement ceremony was attended by about 140 people, including Hwang Jun-gi, the 2nd Vice Mayor of Yongin City, Yoo Byung-jin, President of Myongji University, and Lee Il-gu, President of Hoseo University.
