Gyeonggi Office of Education Invests 1.5 Trillion Won Annually in School Facility Improvements... Expecting 20,000 Jobs

View original imageThe Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education invests more than 1.5 trillion won annually to improve aging school facilities such as school restroom renovations, waterproofing, exterior wall repairs, and asbestos removal, while creating approximately 20,000 new jobs. Additionally, it plans to revitalize the stagnant local economy by promptly disbursing advance payments, progress payments, and completion payments related to these projects.
On the 11th, the Office announced that it will implement various policy projects including these efforts under the theme of "Safe Schools, Schools Preparing for the Future."
First, to ensure sustainable school environment improvements, the Office will pursue several policy projects centered around three key themes: ▲Improvement of aging school facilities ▲Above all, safe schools ▲Schools in partnership with residents.
Detailed projects include operating a citizen supervision group composed of private experts in various fields to ensure safe schools, establishing an educational facility construction management platform using ICT technology, improving aging school educational environments, securing gymnasiums, removing asbestos to prepare schools for the future, and expanding school complex facilities and designing open school spaces to realize schools open to residents.
The Office expects that investing more than 1.5 trillion won annually in school facilities will create over 20,000 jobs.
In particular, to revitalize the struggling local construction economy, it will make every effort to ensure that advance payments, progress payments, and completion payments at school construction sites are made promptly without delay.

Lee Heon-ju, Director of the Facilities Division at the Office of Education, emphasized, "We will do our best to ensure that schools are safe above all else, especially in light of recent repeated issues with poor construction," adding, "We will also strive to develop and implement policies that contribute to revitalizing the local economy."
