Gyeonggi Women's Family Foundation to Hold 'Gyeonggi Women's Peace Forum' in Suwon on the 19th
The Gyeonggi-do Women and Family Foundation will hold the Gyeonggi Women’s Peace Forum on the 19th.
The foundation announced on the 11th that it will host the Gyeonggi Women’s Peace Forum under the theme “Gyeonggi-do, Now / Peace Continued by Women” at the auditorium of the Gyeonggi Women’s Vision Center in Suwon in the afternoon.
Marking the 70th anniversary of the armistice this year, the forum, which carries the meaning of “continuing the achievements of women’s peace activities in the Gyeonggi region for the prevention of war and violence,” is co-hosted by the foundation, the Gyeonggi Women’s Association Council, Gyeonggi Women’s Solidarity, Gyeonggi Women’s Association Federation, and Gyeonggi Autonomous Women’s Solidarity, a consortium of women’s organizations in the province called the Gyeonggi Women’s Network.
The forum, focused on feminist peace discourse and peace education, will proceed with a keynote speech, panel discussion, presentations, and debates.
The first part, themed “Feminist Peace Discourse and Peace Issues in the Gyeonggi Region,” features keynote speeches by Marie E. Berry, an American women’s peace activist and scholar and professor at the University of Denver, and Jeong Hyun-baek, former Minister of Gender Equality and Family.
Following this, the panel discussion will be chaired by Kim Jeong-su, executive director of Women Making Peace, with participation from Lee Jeong-ah, representative of the Gyeonggi Women’s Association Federation, and Kim Ellie, adjunct professor at Sungkonghoe University.
The second part, under the theme “Gyeonggi Women Respond to Peace Education,” will include expert presentations and discussions. Park Hyun-sun, research fellow at Ewha Womans University Institute for Unification Studies, will chair the session. Jeong Joo-jin, director of the Peace and Conflict Research Institute, will present on “Current Status and Tasks of Peace Education,” while Im Hye-kyung, foundation research fellow, and Yang Hoon-do, director of the Gyeonggi Peace Education Center, will discuss “Current Status of Public-Private Peace Education in Gyeonggi-do.” Lee Seul-gi, researcher at Seoul National University’s Unification Education Research Center, will present on “Cases of Peace Education Content Operation,” followed by a discussion.
Meanwhile, on the day of the forum, the lobby of the Gyeonggi Women’s Vision Center and the Na Hye-seok Hall will host the “Gyeonggi Women’s Peace Exhibition.” This special exhibition introduces activities of women’s peace movements in the Gyeonggi region, photographs, and collections from the Pyeongtaek Base Village Women’s Peace Museum “Ilgopjipmae.”
Kim Hye-soon, CEO of the Gyeonggi Women and Family Foundation, said, “The Gyeonggi Women’s Peace Forum, now in its fourth year, is a meaningful event included as a detailed implementation task in Gyeonggi-do’s Basic Plan for Gender Equality, and we will continuously discover peace agendas in Gyeonggi-do from the perspectives of women and human rights.”
