An man in his 80s was arrested by the police for committing an obscene act in a self-service laundromat with few customers.
A video posted on the official YouTube channel of the National Police Agency on the 6th showed Mr. A, a man in his 80s recently arrested by the Yangcheon Police Station in Seoul on charges of public obscenity.
Mr. A is suspected of committing an obscene act at a self-service laundromat in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul.
In the video released by the National Police Agency, a citizen asked for help from police officers conducting special security activities in an alley in Yangcheon-gu. This citizen was the owner of the self-service laundromat. The owner said, "There was a strange person in the laundromat."
The CCTV footage from five days earlier, shown by the owner to the police, clearly captured Mr. A entering the self-service laundromat and committing an obscene act after other customers had left, leaving him alone. The police identified Mr. A’s residence through CCTV analysis and inquiries, leading to his arrest.
Mr. A initially denied the charges, but reportedly admitted to them after the police showed him the CCTV footage.
Public obscenity charges apply when a person commits an "obscene act" in a public place that can cause sexual shame to others.
