UK Labour Party Wins Scottish By-election by More Than Double the Votes...
Growing Expectations for Victory in the General Election
The UK's main opposition party, the Labour Party, achieved a significant victory over the Scottish National Party (SNP), the majority party in Scotland, in a Scottish by-election.
In the by-election for the UK Parliament seat in the outskirts of Glasgow held on the 5th (local time), Labour candidate Michael Shanks won with 58.6% of the vote, more than twice the votes of SNP candidate Katie Loudon, who received 27.6%.
BBC UK assessed that the Labour Party achieved results beyond their highest expectations. Labour leader Keir Starmer described the election victory as an "incredible result" and emphasized that it was "a clear message that it is time for change." British polling expert John Curtice said in a BBC radio interview, "A change of this magnitude historically occurs before the opposition wins the next general election."
