Suncheon Citizen's Day Ceremony and Citizen Harmony Festival Held

Plans for Abundant Events Including Food Market and Celebration Performances

Suncheon City (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) announced that the 29th Suncheon Citizens' Day events will be held on different dates: the commemorative ceremony on October 15 and the citizens' harmony festival on October 31.

The Citizens' Day Event Promotion Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Committee) decided after three meetings from August to October 5 to hold the Citizens' Day events separately.

During the Garden Expo period, 280,000 citizens united to lead a successful expo and presented a new milestone for the city that can proudly be showcased worldwide. Therefore, there was a consensus that on the 31st, all citizens should gather to enjoy together, encourage one another, and boost their pride.

The city plans to use this day after the expo to highlight a new start for first-class Suncheon, revealing a future vision of the city as an economic hub through renewed citizen unity, and to make a joint commitment with citizens for successful progress.

The commemorative ceremony will be held on October 15 at 2 p.m. in the multipurpose hall of the Culture and Health Center, with about 350 citizens attending. The event will be concise, featuring the presentation of the 'Citizen Award' to those who have greatly contributed to regional development, commemorative speeches, performances, and a congratulatory performance by the municipal choir to reflect on the significance of Citizens' Day.

The Citizens' Harmony Festival will take place on October 31, the last day of the Garden Expo, at Ocheon Green Square from 10 a.m. It will offer a variety of programs for all citizens, including children, youth and adults, and seniors, along with food markets prepared by 24 towns and townships, and congratulatory performances, creating a rich and abundant event.

A Suncheon city official said, "The Committee, after much deliberation, decided on the commemorative ceremony and Citizens' Harmony Festival. To prepare for these, meetings were held with the heads of 24 towns and townships and the general affairs team leaders. We asked for cooperation and citizen participation to ensure the 29th Citizens' Day events proceed smoothly."
