Zelensky, Confident "We Will Go Together" Amid US Aid Skepticism
Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, said he is "confident in the United States" amid growing skepticism about support for Ukraine within the U.S.
According to major foreign media including Bloomberg, President Zelensky made these remarks on the 5th (local time) at the 3rd European Political Community Summit held in Granada, Spain, stating that the United States is a strong nation with strong institutions and strong democracy.
Currently, as political conflicts intensify over the passage of next year's budget in the U.S., opposition to support for Ukraine is growing, mainly among hardline Republicans.
Regarding this trend in the U.S., Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, told reporters, "Ukraine needs support from the EU, but it also needs support from the United States," emphasizing, "Europe cannot replace the United States."
European leaders clearly expressed their intention to continue providing assistance to President Zelensky, who is concerned about the potential halt of Western support.
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, stated that the EU is preparing a package to provide 50 billion euros (approximately 71 trillion won) in support from next year through 2027, and expressed that she is "very confident" in the continued support from the United States for Ukraine. She added, "I am very confident in the U.S. support for Ukraine," saying it is only a matter of timing.
Emmanuel Macron, President of France, also said, "We all know that we are talking about the possibility of lasting peace for Europe and our continent," and that Ukraine can continue to expect support from Europe.
Olaf Scholz, Chancellor of Germany, announced that efforts are underway to supply additional Patriot air defense missile systems to Ukraine.
