Jeonnam Province Progressing Smoothly in Preparations for Successful National Sports Festival
Opening Ceremony of the Provincial Supporters Group Held
Preparations are steadily underway for the successful hosting of the 104th National Sports Festival and the 43rd National Para Games.
On the 5th, Jeonnam Province announced that it held a launch ceremony for the ‘Citizen Cheer Squad’ at Mokpo Indoor Gymnasium to inject enthusiasm and vitality into the Sports Festival.
The launch ceremony was attended by Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province; Kim Won-yi, Member of the National Assembly; Seo Dong-wook, Chairman of the Jeonnam Provincial Council; Park Hong-ryul, Mayor of Mokpo; Koo Bok-gyu, County Governor of Hwasun; Shin Woo-cheol, County Governor of Wando; deputy heads of 7 cities and counties; Song Jin-ho, Chairman of the Jeonnam Sports Council; Park Jung-hyun, Executive Vice Chairman of the Jeonnam Disabled Sports Council; members of the Jeonnam Provincial Council; and about 1,500 citizens of the cheer squad.
The event, filled with the passionate energy of the Citizen Cheer Squad who will play a key role in boosting the morale of the athletes, creating a lively atmosphere for the festival, and ensuring its successful hosting, included pre-ceremony performances, role training, reading of a pledge embodying their commitment as Jeonnam ambassadors, and a performance celebrating the successful hosting of the Sports Festival.
In particular, three representatives from the citizen, student, and sports organization cheer squads read a pledge stating, “As the Citizen Cheer Squad that warmly welcomes participating athletes and visitors and realizes a Sports Festival full of kindness, we pledge to take the lead in creating and enjoying a harmonious and moving festival together with the citizens.”
Following this, all attendees shouted the slogan “Top Jeonnam, Citizen Cheer Squad! Let’s fly together, Moving Sports Festival!” in unison with the host’s cue, energetically reaffirming their determination for the successful hosting of the two major sports festivals with a towel performance.
Governor Kim Young-rok said, “I hope the Citizen Cheer Squad will act as the core players of a future hopeful Sports Festival advancing toward a great Jeonnam, and a citizen harmony festival created and participated in by the people. As the true protagonists enjoying the festival, please send passionate cheers and applause so that the athletes can fully demonstrate their skills.”
The province recruited the Citizen Cheer Squad by dividing them into three categories: general public, students, and sports organizations, in cooperation with 22 cities and counties, the Provincial Office of Education, and the Provincial Sports Council. Amid high interest and enthusiasm from citizens, about 17,000 people were recruited, far exceeding the initial target.
Going forward, the squad will boost athletes’ morale and enliven the festival atmosphere through enthusiastic cheering and game viewing, engage in activities such as maintaining the venue environment and promoting proper game-watching culture, and serve as ambassadors to introduce Jeonnam’s history and cultural arts to athletes and visitors.
Starting with the launch ceremony of the Citizen Cheer Squad, Jeonnam Province plans to continuously consolidate citizen capabilities through participation, dedication, and volunteerism to create a successful Sports Festival that moves all citizens.

Meanwhile, the 104th National Sports Festival will be held from the 13th to the 19th of this month, centered in Mokpo as the main host city, with 49 events spread across 70 venues in 22 cities and counties of Jeonnam. The 43rd National Para Games will take place from November 3rd to 8th, featuring 31 events at 38 venues in 12 cities and counties.
