Gwangyang-si, All-Out Effort to Secure National Budget for Local Issues
Mayor Jeong Inhwa to Visit National Assembly on the 4th to Propose Key Regional Issues
Jeong In-hwa, the mayor of Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do, visited the National Assembly on the 4th to propose key local issues.
The visit was made to additionally request projects in Gwangyang City that were cut or not reflected in the 2024 government budget proposal submitted to the National Assembly.
Mayor Jeong met with Seo Sam-seok, the chairman of the Budget and Accounts Committee, to actively request the additional inclusion of Gwangyang City projects directly related to citizens' lives and regional growth engines, and agreed to closely cooperate with Seo Dong-yong, the local member of the National Assembly, to secure the projects not reflected during the National Assembly's review.
The main proposals include four projects totaling 20 billion KRW in the 2024 budget: ▲ 5 billion KRW for the construction of a public specialized science museum in Gwangyang (total 40 billion KRW) ▲ 3.8 billion KRW for the restoration of the Seonghwang-Jungma urban ecological axis (total 8 billion KRW) ▲ 3.5 billion KRW for the connection project of the Gubongsan ecological axis (total 5 billion KRW) ▲ 7.7 billion KRW for the installation of buffer retention facilities in the Gwangyang National Industrial Complex (total 42.4 billion KRW).
After hearing the explanation, Seo Sam-seok, chairman of the Budget and Accounts Committee, expressed strong agreement with the necessity of these projects and stated his intention to actively support the inclusion of the projects proposed by Gwangyang City in the 2024 budget.

Jeong In-hwa, mayor of Gwangyang City, said, “Since government-subsidized projects serve as a catalyst for regional development and economic revitalization by utilizing central government resources, we will concentrate all administrative efforts to ensure that Gwangyang City’s projects are reflected as much as possible during the National Assembly’s review process.”
