"iPhone, Come Out" Google Unveils 'Pixel 8'... Price Initially Similar
Equipped with Tensor G3... AI and Machine Learning Capabilities
Pro Model Price Comparable to iPhone 15
Google, which holds a 3% share of the U.S. smartphone market, has unveiled its latest smartphone series, the 'Pixel 8.' Industry experts analyzed that the pricing of the Pixel 8 Pro model at a level comparable to the iPhone 15 reflects Google's confidence.
On the 4th (local time), Google revealed its latest smartphone, the Pixel 8 series, at the 'Made by Google' product launch event held in New York.
The Pixel 8 series features more rounded corners and a flatter screen compared to previous models. Google explained that this series offers a refresh rate as fast as the iPhone 15 Pro model, making website scrolling and gaming appear smoother.
Functionally, the Pixel 8 series is equipped with Google's in-house developed chip, the Tensor G3, enabling the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning resources.
In particular, the Pixel 8 Pro has enhanced AI-based editing tools. It includes the 'Magic Eraser' feature, which can remove unwanted images from photos or eliminate unwanted sounds from videos, and the 'Best Take' feature, which has been improved to create the best photo from multiple similar shots.
The prices for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro models start at $699 and $999 respectively, each $100 higher than a year ago. Google product manager Patrick Hennessy said, "The new pricing reflects the upgraded display and camera," adding, "This goes beyond what we have shown before."
