50-Year-Old Man Charged with Mother’s Murder Sent to Prosecution in Custody
A man in his 50s accused of killing his mother in a residential area of Gwanak-gu, Seoul, has been handed over to the prosecution.
The Gwanak Police Station in Seoul announced on the 4th that they had sent Mr. A, a man in his 50s, to the prosecution on charges of killing a direct ascendant. On the afternoon of the 25th of last month, the police responded to a report from Mr. A's older brother stating that "the mother was collapsed" and arrested Mr. A at his residence in Gwanak-gu. At the time of the police arrival, the mother, Ms. B, was already deceased.

According to the preliminary verbal autopsy opinion from the National Forensic Service (NFS), the cause of death was reported as "chest injury caused by external force." The police requested an autopsy from the NFS to determine the exact time and cause of Ms. B's death. The police believe that Ms. B died due to Mr. A's assault and that the time of death was several days before the report was made.
