Gurye-gun Delivers Letter of Intent to Korea Midland Power for Pumped Storage Power Plant Attraction

Kim Sun-ho, Gurye County Governor, Visits Korea Midland Power Headquarters

On the 4th, Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do, announced that it visited the headquarters of Korea Midland Power Co., Ltd. to deliver the 'Letter of Intent for Hosting the Gurye Pumped Storage Power Plant.'

At the delivery ceremony, about 30 people attended, including Kim Soon-ho, the governor of Gurye-gun, Yoo Si-moon, chairman of the Gurye County Council, Jeong Man-su, chairman of the hosting committee for the pumped storage power plant in Muncheok-myeon, and other committee members. Governor Kim Soon-ho handed the letter of intent to Kim Ho-bin, president of Korea Midland Power Co., Ltd.

Gurye-gun signed a business agreement with Korea Midland Power Co., Ltd. on May 31 to attract the pumped storage power plant in accordance with the government's 10th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand. Through site surveys, Muncheok-myeon was selected as the candidate site, and great efforts have been made to secure resident acceptance by holding 24 residents' briefings and field tours.

As a result of these efforts, not only the residents of Muncheok-myeon but also many citizens of Gurye-gun have wished for the attraction of the pumped storage power plant. On August 29, about 110 residents of Muncheok-myeon launched the 'Muncheok-myeon Pumped Storage Power Plant Hosting Committee,' and on September 25, about 3,000 'Gurye Pumped Storage Power Plant Hosting Supporters' held an inauguration ceremony to cheer for the hosting of the Gurye Pumped Storage Power Plant.

The Gurye Pumped Storage Power Plant is a large-scale national project with a capacity of 500MW and an investment of about 1 trillion won. It is expected to greatly help overcome the crisis of regional extinction and promote regional development through massive local capital inflow and job creation.

Governor Kim Soon-ho said, "We submitted the letter of intent with the earnest wishes of the citizens of Gurye-gun," and added, "With a heavy sense of responsibility, we will cooperate with Korea Midland Power to do our best to attract the pumped storage power plant."
