From the 7th to the 9th, Autumn Meets Food and Art
Suncheon City in Jeollanam-do announced that the ‘2023 Suncheon Food and Art Festival,’ where food meets art, will be held for three days from the 7th to the 9th along Jungang-ro.
At the opening ceremony on the 7th, a performance and a themed show combining food and art under the theme ‘Suncheon Hansang’ will mark the start of the festival on the main stage next to Gwangju Bank at Namgyo Five-way Intersection.
Following this, singer Yang Ji-eun and idol group ONF will take the stage, and an EDM party will add more splendor to the opening night.
Additionally, a nationwide food competition will be held in front of the Medical Center Rotary to discover unique local representative dishes using Suncheon’s specialty ingredients and to promote local food tourism.
On the 8th, there will be a cooking class with star chef Park Chan-il and Agora performances featuring local artists. Popular singer Park Jae-jung’s congratulatory performance and a spectacular light show are also scheduled.
On the 9th, a dance competition for local youth, tango performances, and a show by the dance team HOOK are expected to add more attractions to the festival.
Moreover, at the Jungang Intersection stage, circus performances, busking shows, and street gym programs will be held, and Suncheon Four-cut Photo Zones will be set up throughout the venue to enhance the festival’s appeal.
The city selected festival booth operators through a ‘Snack Food’ contest aimed at developing Suncheon’s representative dishes, targeting citizens in advance, and plans to sell a variety of foods after expert food consulting and thorough hygiene education.
In particular, this year, colors are assigned by food type to add fun: the Red Zone for sauces and seasonings, the Yellow Zone for fried foods, and the Green Zone for well-being foods. Additionally, there will be a Representative Food Zone, Youth Pocha Zone, and Food Truck Zone, along with large barbecue zones and various experience programs such as making mini gimbap.
Booths inspired by exotic alley night markets around the world will showcase street foods from six countries.
Furthermore, distinctive rest zones will be installed at each food booth to provide spaces for relaxation and enjoyment.
This Food and Art Festival is a celebration for all ages, with the Moonlight Playground at Nammunteo Square featuring air bounces, a cartoon cafe, and a campnic zone for children.
Also, at Culture Street and Yeonja-ro, an art market will be held with various art exhibitions, craft and garden-related displays, caricature drawing, and diverse experience programs.
Meanwhile, from 11:30 PM on the 6th to 6 AM on the 10th, vehicles will be completely restricted along Jungang-ro, including Medical Center Rotary, Namgyo Five-way Intersection, Culture Street, and Yeonja-ro.
A Suncheon city official said, “We will strive to ensure a safe food experience, clean hygiene, and a joyful and happy festival without overcharging so that visitors will remember it fondly.”
