'Local Industry Development Fund' Established, Handover Ceremony on the 4th
A large-scale ‘fund project’ for the selection of Ulsan National University as a Glocal University has been completed.
Ulsan City announced on the 4th that it will hold the ‘Ulsan National University, Glocal University30 Regional Industry Promotion Fund Delivery Ceremony’ at 10 a.m. in the main conference room on the 2nd floor of the city hall main building.
So far, Ulsan City, the university, local companies, and related organizations have raised 100 billion KRW for the ‘Glocal University30 Regional Industry Promotion Fund’ to support Ulsan National University’s selection as a Glocal University30.
About 20 representatives from 16 related organizations, including Kim Doo-gyeom, Mayor of Ulsan, Kim Ki-hwan, Chairperson of Ulsan City Council, Oh Yeon-cheon, President of Ulsan National University, Lee Yong-hoon, President of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), and HD Hyundai, will attend the event.
The event will proceed with the final report on the Glocal University30 implementation plan by President Oh Yeon-cheon of Ulsan National University and the delivery ceremony of the regional industry promotion fund.
The fund delivered on this day is the result of raising 100 billion KRW for the regional industry promotion fund, as included in the Glocal University30 innovation plan submitted by Ulsan National University to the Ministry of Education last May.
By completing the creation of the 100 billion KRW regional industry promotion fund, the strategy is to highlight differentiation from other preliminary designated universities and greatly assist Ulsan National University’s final selection.
The 100 billion KRW regional industry promotion fund was raised with the participation of 14 local industrial companies, including Ulsan City, Ulsan National University, UNIST, HD Hyundai, Seoul Asan Medical Center, Ulsan University Hospital, SK Energy, S-OIL, KCC, Equinor Korea, Munmu Baram Co., Ltd., Ghost Whale Offshore Wind Power Co., Ltd. 1, 2, and 3, Haewool Offshore Wind Power Co., Ltd., and the Ulsan National University Alumni Association.
This fund will be used for ▲supporting future research and development (R&D) and establishing corporate R&D infrastructure ▲training research talent in new industries and educating workers in industrial sites ▲promoting startups and supporting technology commercialization to innovate the Ulsan regional industry.
Kim Doo-gyeom, Mayor of Ulsan, said, “The creation of the 100 billion KRW Glocal University30 regional industry promotion fund expresses Ulsan City’s determination for the selection of Ulsan National University as a Glocal University30 and is a model of regional win-win development where the city, university, and industry grow together.”
The Glocal University30 project is a program by the Ministry of Education that selects universities to break down walls between universities and lead co-growth with regions and industries based on partnerships, providing 100 billion KRW over the next five years.
Among 15 preliminary universities this year, about 10 universities will be selected, and by 2026, 30 universities will be chosen.
