This Chuseok, 112 Emergency Calls and Traffic Accidents Both Decrease... "A Peaceful Holiday Break"
The National Police Agency announced on the 4th that during the 16-day comprehensive security operation for the Chuseok holiday from the 18th of last month to the 3rd of this month, a generally peaceful atmosphere was maintained without any major incidents or accidents.
The police anticipated increased security demands compared to last year due to the longer holiday period, increased traffic from visits to hometowns and outings. Additionally, following the incidents at Sillim and Seohyeon Stations, visible police activities were actively conducted to address the public’s lingering concerns about knife-related crimes.
As a result, compared to last year, the average daily 112 emergency calls during this year’s Chuseok holiday decreased by 2.5%, from 58,725 to 57,270 calls, and traffic accidents dropped by 22%, from 409 to 319 cases. Even compared to normal periods, 112 emergency calls decreased by 7% this year.
The police deployed 210,484 officers to 92,567 locations including crowded regional festivals and multi-use facilities, and conducted vulnerability assessments at businesses handling large amounts of cash such as jewelry stores, currency exchange offices, and convenience stores. They carried out visible patrol activities jointly with autonomous crime prevention squads.
Furthermore, to ensure smooth traffic flow and prevent accidents, patrols were intensified at accident-prone areas caused by drowsy driving. Using undercover patrol cars and helicopters, multi-dimensional enforcement of traffic law violations was conducted, resulting in the detection of 2,126 drunk driving cases and 15,271 other violations. The average daily number of injuries decreased by 32.1%, from 687 last year to 474, and fatalities decreased by 14.3%, from 7 to 6.

Meanwhile, during the Chuseok holiday period, the police arrested 14 violent criminals using weapons and apprehended 2,030 offenders involved in everyday violence including drunken violence. Additionally, monitoring was conducted on 17,847 households at risk of repeated domestic violence.
