Suspected Solitary Death... Family Found Deceased Person on the Day Before Chuseok
On the 28th of last month, the day before Chuseok, a man in his 40s was found dead in an apartment in Gangdong-gu, Seoul. It is presumed to be a solitary death, which evoked even more sadness as it was discovered just before the holiday.
According to the Gangdong Police Station on the 2nd, a man in his 40s was found dead in the master bedroom of an apartment in Gangil-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul, on the 28th of last month. After the police inspected the inside of the apartment, there was no evidence of homicide.
The man, who had been working as a math instructor in the Gangnam area, was discovered by family members who came to visit ahead of the holiday.
The man's body was in an advanced state of decomposition when found. It was estimated that he had been dead for more than two months.
Previously, there had been complaints from residents about a foul odor in this apartment. One resident left a note in the elevator saying, "The rotten smell has been overwhelming for over 50 days. Due to the odor, I have suffered from breathing difficulties and headaches, making it hard to sleep."
After the deceased was found, the management office announced, "The odor complaints are presumed to be related to the smell from the resident's death. We will contact the bereaved family and, if access to the unit is possible, conduct thorough disinfection. We apologize for not discovering the unit earlier. We will pay close attention to similar complaints in the future."
