Hwang Jung-kook, UN Ambassador: "North Korea-Russia Military Cooperation Violates Security Council Resolution"
Ambassador Hwang Jun-guk to the United Nations stated on the 2nd (local time) that cooperation between North Korea and Russia contributes to the enhancement of North Korea's weapons of mass destruction (WMD) programs and military capabilities, which constitutes a violation of multiple United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.
In his keynote speech at the First Committee (Disarmament and International Security) of the UN General Assembly held at the UN Headquarters in New York, Ambassador Hwang said, "Needless to say, North Korea's relentless missile launches and its continued pursuit of nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs clearly violate relevant Security Council resolutions."
He mentioned, "As a non-permanent member of the Security Council for the 2024?2025 term, South Korea will responsibly fulfill our duty to faithfully adhere to the established rules and norms to secure international peace and security."
He continued, "We urge Russia to fully implement the Security Council resolutions," and emphasized, "We also call on North Korea to halt further provocations and choose the path of dialogue and complete denuclearization."

Ambassador Hwang pointed out that the so-called 'satellite' launches claimed by North Korea utilize ballistic missile technology and have nothing to do with peaceful use in outer space. He stated, "North Korea has pre-announced another so-called 'satellite' launch this October, which would be the third this year," and urged, "North Korea should stop such additional provocations."
