Congestion Expected to Ease Around 8 to 9 PM
On the afternoon of the first day of the Chuseok holiday, the 28th, the homecoming traffic continues, causing congestion on various expressways nationwide.
According to Korea Expressway Corporation, as of 1 p.m. on this day, the estimated travel time by passenger car from Seoul Tollgate to major cities nationwide is 7 hours 20 minutes to Busan, 6 hours 38 minutes to Ulsan, 5 hours 58 minutes to Daegu, 7 hours 10 minutes to Mokpo, 6 hours 20 minutes to Gwangju, 4 hours 50 minutes to Gangneung, and 4 hours to Daejeon.
On the Gyeongbu Expressway heading toward Busan, slow traffic is occurring in the sections from Hannam to Seocho (4 km), Singal Junction to near Namsa (23 km), Anseong Junction to Anseong (5 km), Anseong to Cheonan Junction (26 km), near Cheonan Rest Area to Biryong Junction (60 km), and Geumho Junction to Dodong Junction (13 km).
On the Seohaean Expressway heading toward Mokpo, vehicle movement is congested near Geumcheon, Mokgam exit, from Ansan Junction to near Sunsan Tunnel (3 km), Paltan Junction to Seohae Bridge (31 km), near Dangjin to Dangjin Junction (7 km), and from Buan to near Julpo (18 km).
On the Jungbu Expressway heading toward Namyi, traffic is delayed near Seoicheon exit, from Hobup Junction to near Namicheon IC (10 km), near Daeso Junction to near Jincheon Tunnel (14 km), and near Seocheongju to Namyi Junction (3 km).
On the Yeongdong Expressway heading toward Gangneung, congestion is occurring in the sections near Dunnae Tunnel to Bongpyeong Tunnel (4 km), near Dunnae to Dunnae Tunnel (7 km), Wonju Junction to Saemal (16 km), near Munmak to Munmak Rest Area (3 km), and Donggunpo to Bugok (2 km).

The nationwide traffic volume on this day is forecasted to be 5.69 million vehicles. Of these, 510,000 vehicles are expected to move from the metropolitan area to local regions, and 390,000 vehicles from local regions to the metropolitan area. The congestion in the homecoming direction on the day before Chuseok is expected to be the worst during the holiday period. The Expressway Corporation forecasts that road congestion will peak between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., and the traffic jam will ease around 8 to 9 p.m.
