SK Innovation announced on the 27th that the 'Great Music Festival (GMF) for People with Developmental Disabilities' sponsored by the company was successfully held.
GMF is a large-scale music festival hosted by the Heart-Heart Foundation, which first established an orchestra composed of youths with developmental disabilities. It is sponsored by SK Innovation, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and SM Entertainment, and supported by the Community Chest of Korea. The event, held on the 26th at the Grand Performance Hall of the Millennium Hall at Konkuk University in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, was attended by Jeon Byeong-geuk, 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Oh Ji-cheol, Chairman of the Heart-Heart Foundation; Namgung Cheol, CEO of SM Entertainment; and Lim Su-gil, Head of SK Innovation’s Value Creation Center.
This year, 285 performers from 30 teams nationwide participated in the preliminary round of GMF. Among them, six teams advanced to the final stage held on the day, and the grand prize was awarded to the 'Parasol Clarinet Ensemble.' The grand prize team received the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award and a prize of 10 million KRW. The Excellence Award went to the 'Nepes Lua Orchestra,' the Merit Award was given to 'String K' and 'The Avec Ensemble,' and the Encouragement Award was presented to 'Mosaic' and 'Ariananta.'
The winning teams will receive prize money along with various performance opportunities. SK Innovation plans to continue supporting the growth of musical groups for people with developmental disabilities.
Outside the stage, SK Innovation’s eco-friendly character 'Haengko (Happy Elephant)' attracted the audience’s attention, and various programs and a message wall for cheering were also set up.
SK Innovation will expand GMF overseas. On the 15th of next month, the 'Great Music Festival in Atlanta' will be held in the United States, aiming to break down prejudices about disabilities and showcase the talents of people with developmental disabilities.
On the 26th, the 'Parasol Clarinet Ensemble' team, the grand prize winner of the 7th National Music Festival for People with Developmental Disabilities (GMF), is taking a commemorative photo.
