Due to the steep rise in oil prices... Government urges "stabilization of petroleum prices"
On-site Inspection of Over 500 Gas Stations with High Fuel Prices, Concurrent Special Quality Checks Conducted for 3 Months
Kang Kyung-sung, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, visited the Altteul Chasarang Gas Station located in Osan-si, Gyeonggi Province on the 26th to check the petroleum price trends at the frontline and urged stabilization of petroleum prices to minimize the burden on the public during the Chuseok holiday period.
Ahead of the Chuseok holiday, domestic gasoline prices exceed 1,750 KRW and diesel prices exceed 1,650 KRW, placing a burden on travelers returning home. Vice Minister Kang visited Altteul gas stations in the metropolitan area suburbs, where there is heavy traffic before the holiday, to check consumer price trends and urged the gas station industry to participate in price stabilization. He also encouraged the officials of Altteul gas stations, which play a significant role in alleviating the public’s burden of purchasing petroleum products during the high oil price period, and listened to the difficulties faced at the gas stations.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy is making every effort to stabilize oil prices to ease the public’s burden during the Chuseok holiday. The ministry, along with the Petroleum Management Service and Korea National Oil Corporation, is conducting on-site inspections over two weeks (September 14?27) targeting about 450 high-priced gas stations and 50 highway gas stations. They are checking prices and requesting corrections for gas stations where the registered selling prices on Opinet differ from the actual selling prices. Additionally, to eradicate illegal distribution of counterfeit petroleum products exploiting the high oil price period, a special inspection of about 6,000 gas stations will be conducted over three months.
The ministry is monitoring domestic and international petroleum price trends and frequently holding price inspection meetings with refining and gas station industries to encourage participation in price stabilization.
