District Mayor Choi Hogwon: "We Will Continuously Practice Sharing and Volunteering to Create a Warm Yeongdeungpo Together with Socially Vulnerable Groups"
Forty employees of Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) practiced warm companionship by visiting facilities for people with disabilities ahead of Chuseok, engaging in volunteer activities such as making songpyeon and assisting with meals.
The employees who participated in the volunteer activities visited Hansarang Village and Hansarang Disabled Infant Care Center located in Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi-do. Notably, more than half of the participating employees were new public officials, providing an opportunity to confirm that the MZ generation, which prioritizes personal values, is also interested in volunteering for socially vulnerable groups, breaking away from stereotypes.
Before the main volunteer activities, the district conducted 'Education on Understanding and Improving Awareness of People with Disabilities' so that employees could understand and accept people with disabilities without prejudice.
Additionally, pre-education was provided to guide the use of wheelchairs and precautions to take during walks, ensuring that people with disabilities would not feel uncomfortable with the employees' inexperienced hands.
Afterwards, the employees shared warm feelings ahead of the Korean Thanksgiving by making songpyeon, frying jeon, playing traditional folk games such as biseok chigi, tuho throwing, and yutnori together with the residents with disabilities. They also assisted those who had difficulty eating alone and spent time walking together using wheelchairs for those with mobility difficulties.
A new public official who participated in the volunteer activities said, “Spending time with people with disabilities was a meaningful time to realize the importance of sharing. I will continue to pay attention to marginalized neighbors and steadily carry on volunteer activities.”
The district plans to continue warm companionship by employees in facilities for the elderly and children who need help in the future.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “It is heartwarming that employees visited the facilities directly and spent time enjoying Chuseok with people with disabilities ahead of the holiday. Going forward, including myself, the employees will practice sharing and volunteering in person to create a Yeongdeungpo that can wipe away the tears of socially vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities and the elderly.”
