Woori Technology Completes Supply of DCS Spare Parts Worth 8.5 Billion KRW for Shin Hanul Units 1 and 2
Woori Technology announced on the 22nd that it has completed the supply of spare parts for the Distributed Control System (DCS) of Shinhanul Units 1 and 2 nuclear power plants, a project worth 8.5 billion KRW that was ordered last February.
DCS is a core technology that integrally manages the operation, control, monitoring, instrumentation, and safety of nuclear power plants. In 2010, Woori Technology became the fourth in the world and the first in Korea to domestically produce nuclear power plant control systems, holding the only related technology in the country.
Since nuclear power plant control systems are essential for all nuclear plants, they are applied not only to new domestic plants but also to overseas nuclear power plant orders. Woori Technology has a track record of supplying DCS to Shinhanul Units 1 and 2 and Saewool Units 3 and 4 (formerly Shin-Kori Units 5 and 6). In April this year, it was selected as the exclusive supplier of DCS for Shinhanul Units 3 and 4. In the second half of the year, a supply contract for the DCS CPU modules of Shinhanul Units 3 and 4 is also planned.
Woori Technology is currently designing and developing a DCS CPU module system with enhanced cybersecurity requirements. Cybersecurity has recently gained attention as a defense against cyberattacks on national critical facilities, including nuclear power plants, and is emphasized as an essential technology for the development of Small Modular Reactors (SMR), considered the next generation of nuclear power plants.
A Woori Technology official stated, “The DCS delivered this time is not only essential for nuclear power plants but also that Woori Technology is the sole supplier domestically,” adding, “It is expected that DCS supply will expand with the extension of operation periods of domestic nuclear plants, construction of new plants, and overseas nuclear power plant orders.”
He continued, “The government is currently promoting the continued operation of 10 operating nuclear plants and has started early preparations for the 11th Basic Plan for Electricity Supply and Demand, reviewing additional new nuclear plant construction domestically,” and emphasized, “Separately, since the possibility of overseas nuclear power plant orders in Poland and the Czech Republic is high, performance growth in the nuclear power plant business sector based on nuclear power plant control systems will accelerate starting this year.”

Woori Technology signed an exclusive supply contract for the DCS of Shinhanul Units 3 and 4 worth 35.6 billion KRW in April, following a 1.7 billion KRW contract in February. Furthermore, an additional contract worth 15 billion KRW for DCS CPU modules is expected in the second half of the year, bringing the cumulative nuclear power plant orders to 60 billion KRW, and it is anticipated to achieve the highest performance ever in the nuclear power plant business sector.
