MS to Launch AI-Integrated 'Windows 11' on 26th... Copilot Also Officially Debuts
AI Integrated into Taskbar, Execute Commands by Input
"Upgrades to Paint and More... 150 New Features Added"
Microsoft (MS) will release an upgraded version of the Windows 11 operating system for PCs equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) on the 26th. Additionally, 'MS 365 Copilot,' which integrates AI into MS's office software, will officially launch its service in November.
MS announced this on the 21st (local time) at the new product launch event 'MS Surface' held in New York, USA. Since partnering with OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, which was released last November, MS has rapidly integrated AI into its products this year.
The most notable feature of the upgraded version of Windows 11 is the addition of the AI-based Windows Copilot function. When clicking the application (app) on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, the Copilot appears in the sidebar. Through this, users can request summaries of the content they are viewing. Also, when changing Windows environment settings such as adjusting screen brightness, simply inputting the command to Copilot will execute the task automatically.
In addition, the upgrade includes a feature that allows users to write with a pen on Windows devices, and the Paint app has been significantly improved for easier use. This includes a generative AI feature that simplifies photo editing, and Notepad now has an auto-save function, allowing users to resume from where they left off even after closing and reopening the app.
MS stated, "With over 150 new features added to Windows 11, this will be the most ambitious update ever."
Alongside this, MS announced that 'MS 365 Copilot,' which includes Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and more, will be available starting November 1. It automatically generates documents and text based on user requests and summarizes meeting content even if the user does not attend the meeting directly. Earlier, MS unveiled 'MS 365 Copilot' equipped with generative AI in March. Four months later, in July, the software usage fee was set at $30 per user per month.
Collette Stolbaumer, General Manager, explained, "We are currently testing 'MS 365 Copilot' with customers and providing a preview to small and medium-sized businesses."
MS also announced plans to integrate 'DALL·E 3,' an image generation AI, into the Bing search engine and Edge browser, allowing users to create images directly from chatbots and chats. DALL·E 3, the latest image generation AI released by OpenAI on the 20th, generates images users want without the need to input prompts one by one.
