Parent Meeting for 26 Elementary Schools in Suji and Giheung
Lee Sang-il, the mayor of Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, expressed his commitment to the safety of students commuting to school and the improvement of aging facilities in the district.
Yongin City announced on the 21st that Mayor Lee made these remarks during a meeting with the presidents of parent associations from 26 elementary schools in Suji and Giheung districts of Yongin City on the 20th. City education officials and representatives from the Yongin Office of Education also attended the meeting.

The mayor stated, “The safety of students commuting to school is a priority for the city,” adding, “We will directly inspect the commuting environment around schools and promptly take action to improve what can be improved.”
Mayor Lee elaborated, “Since taking office, I have placed the highest value on improving the educational environment and ensuring the safety of children, making great efforts in this regard. I will continue to work harder to inspect and supplement the installation of safety facilities on school routes, as well as the maintenance and expansion of pedestrian paths.” He also explained, “In addition, we will increase subsidies for the Green Mothers’ Association next year.”
During the meeting, Mayor Lee also announced plans to explore support measures for schools that have been established for over 20 years and are experiencing inconveniences due to water leakage or require replacement of heating and cooling equipment. He said, “Going forward, for the future education of Yongin City, we will actively engage in dialogue and communication not only with the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education and the Yongin Office of Education but also with schools at all levels and parents.”

Following the meeting, Mayor Lee plans to hold a meeting with the presidents of parent associations from elementary schools in Cheoin District on the 10th of next month. Subsequently, he intends to meet consecutively with parents from middle and high schools in the district during the same month.
