To this end, the county Agricultural Technology Center began cultivating chrysanthemums in March.
Among the approximately 43,000 pots carefully nurtured day and night throughout the summer to protect the chrysanthemums from heat and pests, about 31,000 pots will be displayed around the cheese festival site, and about 12,000 pots will be exhibited at Okjeongho Suspension Bridge and Bungeo Island Ecological Park.
The county is making thorough preparations to display chrysanthemum pots at the festival site from mid-September to delight the eyes and noses of tourists, ensuring many visitors during the Chuseok holiday as well.
Under the theme "Love Dream in Imsil, Health Dream in Cheese," this year's festival will open on the 6th with a grand ceremony featuring famous singers such as Park Chang-geun, the winner of "Tomorrow's National Singer," trot goddess Hong Jin-young, and janggu master Park Seo-jin, kicking off a successful festival.
Also, for the first time this year, a 50kg large matured cheese will be showcased. During the festival, a free tasting event will be held to introduce visitors to the taste of ImsilN matured cheese.
On the second day of the festival, the 7th, Belgium Day will be held to honor Belgium, the homeland of the late Father Ji Jeong-hwan, the originator of Imsil cheese, the first cheese made in Korea.
Belgium Day will feature programs in collaboration with the Belgian Embassy, including distributing traditional Belgian waffles and making large Belgian waffles, providing an opportunity to learn about Belgian culture.
Thierry Loro, a music director working at the Belgian public broadcasting company, will also visit and plans to produce a documentary covering the life of Father Ji Jeong-hwan.
In particular, Belgium Day will be enriched with family-friendly events such as a photo contest where participants can share memories with Father Ji Jeong-hwan’s nephews.
As for food, local dishes carefully prepared by lifestyle improvement associations from 12 towns and townships, as well as beef from female cows under 50 months raised in the clean environment of Imsil, will be abundantly available. During the festival, Korea’s best Imsil cheese will also be sold at a 10% discount.
County Governor Shim Min said, “This year, we have organized a variety of programs that are more differentiated and allow more participation from residents and tourists. We hope visitors will take home unforgettable autumn memories at the ImsilN Cheese Festival, surrounded by ten million chrysanthemum flowers covering the vast 40,000-pyeong grassland.”
