Gwangju Buk-gu Begins Construction of Section 2 of Citizen's Soseum-gil Connecting Hanse-bong and Samgaksan
On the 17th, Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that it will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the 'Citizen's Soseum-gil Section 2 Construction Project,' which connects Hanse-bong and Samgak-san, separated by a road, on the 18th.
The Section 2 groundbreaking ceremony will take place on the day of the event from 1:30 PM for 20 minutes at Seoil Children's Park in Ilgok-dong. About 50 local residents, including trail guardians, will participate to listen to the project progress report, and the main guests will perform a groundbreaking demonstration to wish for the successful promotion of the project.
The Citizen's Soseum-gil project is a mid- to long-term priority project divided into four sections by Buk-gu, aiming to restore the disconnected ecological corridor by installing connecting bridges from Gunwang-bong at the foot of Mudeung Mountain to Samgak-san, Hanse-bong, Maegok-san, Unam-san, and Yeongsan River, creating an eco-friendly forest trail that spans the entire city at once. The Section 1 project was completed in 2012.
The Section 2, where the groundbreaking ceremony will be held, connects Hanse-bong and Samgak-san, with a budget of 2 billion KRW. It plans to construct a connecting bridge 62 meters long and 3 meters wide, along with a 5.5 km forest trail, aiming for opening in April next year.
Once Section 2 is completed, Buk-gu expects that, in connection with the already established Section 1 (8 km), people will be able to walk the entire 13.5 km route from Hanse-bong in Ilgok-dong through the summit of Samgak-san to the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery at once. This will not only activate urban walking tours but also contribute to preventing animal road accidents, making it a representative eco-friendly landmark where nature and people coexist in the region.

A Buk-gu official said, "The groundbreaking of Section 2 will be recorded as one of the important milestones for Buk-gu to advance as an eco-friendly green city," adding, "We will also carry out the remaining section projects without delay to ensure the ecological axis connection from Mudeung to Yeongsan."
