KT to Promote Establishment of 'AI Medical Leading City' in Dongdaemun-gu
KT announced on the 17th that it has signed a business agreement with Dongdaemun-gu, Samyook Seoul Hospital, and Humanitas to promote the ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) Medical Leading City Model Construction Project.’
The four parties will create an ‘Advanced AI Medical R&D Innovation Valley’ on the vacant land of Samyook Seoul Hospital through this project. Through this, they plan to ▲establish an emergency medical system in Dongdaemun-gu, ▲secure medical data for research and development, and ▲create employment opportunities by attracting healthcare companies and discovering new business models.

To promote the project, the four parties held a business agreement ceremony on the 14th at the 5th-floor conference room of Dongdaemun-gu Office. Attendees included Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu; Yang Geo-seung, Director of Samyook Seoul Hospital; Lee Myung-shin, CEO of Humanitas; and Yoo Chang-gyu, Head of KT Gangbuk-Gangwon Corporate Customer Headquarters, where they discussed the future development and utilization direction of the Innovation Valley.
Dongdaemun-gu will oversee the Innovation Valley development process and support administrative procedures such as budgeting and permits. Based on the collected medical data, it will establish health policies for residents and cooperate in policy research.
Samyook Seoul Hospital will provide the vacant land where the Innovation Valley will be located in Dongdaemun-gu. The Innovation Valley will serve as the infrastructure and pilot project site for Dongdaemun-gu to emerge as an AI medical leading city, providing a foundation for public-private-academic sectors to carry out various medical projects.
KT will build converged information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure such as AI and telecommunications in the Innovation Valley. Humanitas, a medical big data company, will provide systems and data for medical research and development.
The four parties aim to complete the Innovation Valley by 2028. Currently, a project promotion team composed of representatives from each institution has been launched.
Yoo Chang-gyu, Head of KT Gangbuk-Gangwon Corporate Customer Headquarters, stated, “In this project, we will achieve many firsts nationwide, including building AI medical customized advanced ICT infrastructure, helping Dongdaemun-gu become an AI medical leading city.”
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “Through the development of the Innovation Valley, we will attract numerous AI medical specialized companies and contribute to Dongdaemun-gu’s leap as a representative bio and medical industry hub in Seoul.”
Yang Geo-seung, Director of Samyook Seoul Hospital, said, “We will strive to become a leading model of a smart hospital together with various medical specialized companies.”
