Busan City and the 2030 Busan World Expo Citizen Committee held the '2nd Busan Expo Forum' at 1 p.m. on the 15th at BEXCO Exhibition Hall 2.
This forum, themed "The Value of the Expo and Busan Initiative," was organized to once again share the rationale for hosting the 2030 Busan World Expo and to enhance practical cooperation among experts in various fields in preparation for the International Bureau of Expositions (BIE) General Assembly in November, where the host city will be decided.
Held for the second time following last year, the forum was co-hosted and organized by Busan City, the 2030 Busan World Expo Citizen Committee, and the Expo & MICE Research Center of Busan National University’s Institute of Economic and Trade Studies.
About 100 participants attended, including Jang Je-guk, co-chairman of the Special Committee for Supporting the 2030 Busan World Expo under the Korea Council of Governors, Lee Seong-gwon, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, experts related to world expos, professors, civic group representatives, and online pre-registered attendees.
In the keynote presentation, Shin Hyun-seok, president of the Busan Research Institute, delivered a speech titled "Busan is Good for Future Initiative." Following this, a comprehensive discussion was held with five expert panelists led by Oh Seong-geun, advisor to the Citizen Committee, engaging in a lively debate on the preceding topic.
After the comprehensive discussion, various academic and expert presentations and discussions on research topics and directions related to world expos were conducted in three separate sessions.
With around 30 scholars and experts from diverse fields such as society, economy, and urban studies participating, the city deeply discussed the fundamental direction of the 2030 Busan World Expo, the various ripple effects of hosting it, and post-event utilization plans.
