Busan Gijang-gun Conducts Preliminary Feasibility Field Survey for Jeonggwan Urban Railway Line
On the 15th, the Korea Development Institute (KDI) conducted the first on-site survey for the preliminary feasibility study of the Jeonggwan Line urban railway, a long-awaited project in Gijang-gun, Busan.
The on-site survey was attended by officials from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Korea Development Institute, Busan City, and Gijang-gun. It involved inquiries and feedback regarding the project route, as well as an inspection of the project site. Officials from Gijang-gun actively explained the urgency and necessity of the Jeonggwan Line urban railway project.
Present at the site were Jeong Jong-bok, the head of Gijang-gun, National Assembly member Jeong Dong-man, Park Woo-sik, chairman of the Gijang-gun Council, council members, and residents from Jeonggwan-eup and Jangan-eup, who conveyed the hopes of all residents for the Jeonggwan Line urban railway.
The Jeonggwan Line urban railway section spans approximately 13 km, running from Donghae Line Jwacheon Station through Jeonggwan New Town to Wolpyeong Station. A tram and 15 ground-level stations will be installed, with a total project cost of about 343.9 billion KRW. The project period is planned from 2023 to 2029.

View original imageThis section was selected as a target project for the preliminary feasibility study after passing the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s ‘3rd Fiscal Project Evaluation of 2023’ on June 20.
The preliminary feasibility study typically takes about 12 months and evaluates economic feasibility, policy analysis, and regional balanced development. If it achieves a comprehensive evaluation (AHP) score of 0.5 or higher, the project is finalized.
Jeong Jong-bok, the head of Gijang-gun, stated, “The urban railway is an essential long-awaited project to resolve transportation inconveniences and promote balanced regional development in Gijang-gun. We will devote all our efforts until the Jeonggwan Line urban railway project is finally confirmed.”

He added, “Along with the successful completion of the Jeonggwan Line urban railway, we will closely coordinate with the central government, Busan City, local communities, and political circles to ensure the early promotion of the Gijang Line urban railway. We will focus all administrative power on actively securing the project’s feasibility.”
