Korea Shipping Association Signs MOU with UK Shipping Association
The Korea Shipping Association visited London, UK, during the London International Shipping Week from the 12th to the 14th of last month to attend the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) board meeting. They also signed a memorandum of understanding with the UK Chamber of Shipping to promote the development of shipping between the two countries.
During the same period, Yang Chang-ho, the full-time vice chairman of the Korea Shipping Association, paid a courtesy visit to Kitack Lim, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and Arsenio Antonio Dominguez Velasco, the next IMO Secretary-General. He also met with the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Representative to investigate the UK’s maritime accident response system.

On the 14th, Vice Chairman Yang and Sarah Treseder, CEO of the UK Chamber of Shipping, signed the memorandum of understanding and agreed to further strengthen their cooperative relationship for the mutual development of the shipping industries of both countries.
Both associations agreed to actively cooperate in enhancing collaboration for the growth of the shipping industry, exchanging information related to shipping, sharing shipping industry policies of both countries, and supporting knowledge exchange among experts in the shipping sector. They also agreed to continuously strengthen their partnership through annual shipping cooperation meetings and joint Korea-UK shipping seminars.
Specifically, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korea Shipping Association in 2024, they agreed to hold a joint seminar in Korea. They also discussed detailed cooperation plans, including holding a seminar in the UK during the London International Shipping Week in 2025, and agreed to request the governments of both countries to regularize shipping talks.

Vice Chairman Yang stated, “This visit to the UK will serve as an opportunity to establish a closer relationship with the UK shipping industry. Through this, we will do our best to make it a turning point for Korean shipping to take a step forward.”
