Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, Quick Response to Fire Incident
At around 3:28 PM on the 14th, a fire presumed to have been caused by spontaneous combustion broke out at the garbage truck depot in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, producing a large amount of smoke.
In response, Park Gang-su, the mayor of Mapo-gu, immediately sent a disaster safety message to residents around the fire scene, informing them of the fire situation and urging caution for safety to prevent secondary damage.
After sending the message, Mayor Park rushed to the fire site to assess the situation regarding human and property damage and began managing the fire incident.
At the fire scene, 73 firefighters, 24 Mapo-gu officials, and 10 police officers were dispatched to suppress the fire, which was completely extinguished 1 hour and 30 minutes after it started.

Mayor Park stated, “We will thoroughly prepare safety measures to prevent any further fires,” and added, “The rapid initial response was possible thanks to the operation of the ‘Safety Mapo Hotline,’ composed of safety-related organizations including Mapo-gu, the police, and the fire department.”
