‘Understanding Seafood Safety’ Briefing Session Held
Live Broadcast on Official YouTube Channel ‘Gyeongnam TV’
Gyeongsangnam-do will hold a 'Seafood Safety Awareness Seminar' for public officials at 2 p.m. on the 15th in the new building auditorium of the provincial government office and will broadcast it live.
According to Gyeongnam Province, the seminar, hosted by the Korea Maritime Institute, will feature expert lectures on radiation, radiological medicine, and seafood, followed by a Q&A session on site.
The lecture topics include ▲Overview of the nuclear power plant contaminated water issue and its domestic impact on marine discharge ▲Effects of radiation around us and radiation from Fukushima discharge on the human body ▲Radiological medicine in daily life explained by a practicing doctor ▲The necessity of essential seafood protein intake by life cycle.
Invited experts include Professor Jeong Jae-jun of Pusan National University, a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering, Professor Lee Hee-seok of Pohang University of Science and Technology, Chief Nuclear Medicine Physician Yang Seung-oh of Pohang Semyung Christian Hospital, and Professor Emeritus Choi Byung-dae of Gyeongsang National University.
During the Q&A session, Professor Emeritus Lee Deok-hwan of Sogang University and Secretary General Yoo Byung-seo of the Korea Coastal Fishermen's Central Association will provide accurate answers based on scientific facts together with the presenters.
The province stated that the seminar was organized to easily and accurately convey scientific knowledge about radiation and seafood safety to provincial and city/county public officials to enhance their work capabilities.
Through this, they plan to respond to the recent discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan and strengthen efforts to alleviate residents' concerns about seafood safety.
