Gwangyang Sutbulgui Festival Offers 'Incentives' to Travel Agencies
Expectations for 'City of Taste' Branding and Tourism Revitalization
Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced an incentive support plan aimed at the successful hosting of the 19th Gwangyang Traditional Charcoal Grill Festival and the revitalization of tourism, which will be held for three days starting from the 7th of next month.
The city has finalized the incentive criteria for travel agencies that attract domestic and foreign tourists residing in other cities and counties during the festival period as part of the promotion for the Gwangyang Traditional Charcoal Grill Festival and will operate it in full scale.
The incentives will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis within the budget, offering 15,000 KRW or 20,000 KRW per person for day trips and accommodation packages that meet conditions such as the number of visits to designated tourist sites and restaurants.
Additionally, local travel agencies will receive an extra 3,000 KRW per person for attracting tourists and 2,000 KRW per person for attracting foreign tourists.
Visiting the festival venue is mandatory for this incentive, and on the day of the visit, all of the following must be fulfilled: one meal at a local restaurant, one designated tourist site visit, one night’s accommodation in the area, two meals at local restaurants, and one designated tourist site visit.
The designated tourist sites include 15 free tourist spots such as the Yun Dong-ju Manuscript Preservation Jeong Byeong-wook House and Baegunsan Natural Recreation Forest, and 4 paid tourist sites including Gwangyang Wine Cave and Jeonnam Provincial Museum of Art, totaling 19 sites.
To receive the support funds, a pre-plan and travel itinerary must be submitted at least one day before the travel start date for prior consultation, and the payment application must be submitted within 30 days after the end of the trip.
Jung Gu-young, head of the Tourism Division, said, “We hope for much interest and participation in this promotion aimed at the successful hosting of the Gwangyang Traditional Charcoal Grill Festival, which will enrich the season of abundant harvests and clear skies, and at revitalizing tourism in Gwangyang.”
He added, “We expect this promotion to lead the trend of gourmet travel as a travel purpose, brand the city of taste, Gwangyang, and invigorate the travel industry and local economy.”

Meanwhile, the 19th Gwangyang Traditional Charcoal Grill Festival, marking its 19th year this year, will be held for three days starting from the 7th of next month along the Seocheon Riverside area, featuring various cultural, artistic, and experiential programs such as Korean beef tasting events, youth festivals, performances by the municipal choir and traditional Korean music groups, fireworks, and walking along the Seocheon Riverside cosmos path.
