Joint Statement Announcing Strengthened Cooperation in R&D and Human Exchange
Vice Minister Park Yoon-gyu Holds Relay Meetings with Senior Officials
The Republic of Korea and the United States have agreed to cooperate in emerging technology fields such as Open RAN, 6G, and artificial intelligence (AI) to support digital economic growth.
The Ministry of Science and ICT of Korea and the U.S. Department of State held the "7th Korea-U.S. ICT Policy Forum" in the United States on June 12-13 and issued a joint statement containing this agreement.

View original imageThe statement included ▲strengthening R&D cooperation in 5G, 6G, and Open RAN sectors ▲joint discussions on international digital norms and exploring global solidarity measures ▲multilateral cooperation to establish AI governance ▲enhancing cooperation such as R&D and human exchange to foster growth in the cloud industry.
The forum began with opening remarks by Park Yoon-kyu, 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, and Nathaniel Peck, U.S. Department of State Ambassador for Cyberspace and Digital Policy. The Korean delegation consisted of a total of 38 members, including 17 government officials and 23 private sector representatives, discussing cooperation between government and private sectors.
Additionally, Vice Minister Park expanded the scope of Korea-U.S. digital cooperation through a series of meetings with senior U.S. government officials in Washington.
On June 12, he held a separate meeting with Nathaniel Peck, Ambassador for Cyberspace and Digital Policy, sharing Korea’s proactively pursued "Digital New Order Policy" tailored to the era of deepening digitalization.
That afternoon, he met with Alan Davidson, Administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). During the meeting, Korea introduced its policies to enhance AI ethics and reliability, and both agencies agreed to share policies on AI accountability and trustworthiness going forward.
Vice Minister Park also met with key figures from international organizations to build consensus on digital development cooperation and bridging the digital divide in the international community.
On June 11, he visited the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and reviewed the outcomes of joint projects with Ana Maria Ibanez, Vice President of the IDB, aimed at collaboration between Korean and Latin American digital companies and building innovation ecosystems in Latin America.
On June 12, he met with Guangzhao Chen, Vice President of the World Bank, and pledged to actively share Korea’s policy cases and capabilities in AI, data, networks, and cybersecurity?areas where Korea has strengths?in digital development.

Vice Minister Park stated, "Digital has become central to the Korea-U.S. alliance," adding, "Through this visit to Washington, we will continue to advance the outcomes of follow-up measures from the summit, securing world-class digital capabilities and leading the establishment of the digital order."
