According to the police on the 13th, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul, which is investigating the case, secured statements indicating that the gathering was held to celebrate a birthday. The suspects leading the meeting, Jeong (45, detained) and Lee (31, detained), have birthdays one day apart, and the gathering was reportedly to celebrate this.
This group drug suspicion case came to light after an active-duty police officer fell to his death on the 14th floor of an apartment in Yongsan-gu on the 27th of last month. The police have confirmed 21 attendees so far, of whom 19 tested positive in drug tests. One is the police officer who died from the fall, and another is a foreigner who has fled abroad.
The police believe Jeong provided the location, and Lee supplied the drugs. They are investigating whether Lee planned the group drug use in advance, as they detected circumstances indicating Lee purchased drugs in a restroom of an Itaewon club two weeks before the gathering. On the 5th, the police raided a club in Itaewon and secured internal closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and related materials.

On the 10th, the police applied for arrest warrants for Jeong and two others on charges of providing the location and drugs. The Seoul Western District Court issued arrest warrants for Jeong and Lee, citing concerns over evidence destruction and flight risk. However, the warrant for Kim (31), who underwent the same warrant review, was dismissed as there was little concern about flight risk.
