Geochang-gun Strengthens Permit Criteria Review for Solar Power Generation Projects
Creating an Environment for Power Project Implementation Within the Legal Preparation Period
Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 6th that it will strengthen the review of solar power project permit standards to ensure that solar power projects begin within the preparation period.
On August 1st, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy revised the "Detailed Permit Standards for Power Generation Projects (Solar Power)." The revision strengthened the permit standards for power generation projects by specifying the requirements for extending the preparation period from project approval to project commencement, making it impossible to extend the preparation period further if certain procedures are not followed, thereby ensuring that the project is implemented within the approved preparation period.
According to the Korea Electric Power Corporation Geochang Branch, currently, the line connection capacity exceeds the capacity of Geochang No. 1 Substation (200 MW), making line connection impossible, so it is difficult for solar power projects to start within the legal preparation period. Line connection is expected to be possible after the establishment of the No. 2 Substation (scheduled after 2030).
Accordingly, the county plans to apply a grace period throughout September and then, starting from October 1st, strengthen the review of line connection among the power generation project permit standards. Power generation projects will only be permitted if there are no issues with line connection and the solar power project can proceed as originally planned.
Therefore, the county intends to eliminate unnecessary administrative processes that may arise from project non-commencement and participate in the government policy to ensure that solar power projects are implemented within the preparation period.
