The Swing Conducts Personal Mobility Safety Training at Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency
The shared personal mobility company The Swing (hereinafter Swing) announced on the 4th that it conducted PM training at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency together with the Korea Personal Mobility Association (hereinafter KPMA) and deer. The training, held for 170 police officers working in the traffic safety division within Seoul, was conducted twice considering the working conditions.
The training, which consisted of a review session on safety regulations and usage rules related to personal mobility devices (PM), introduced domestic and international related systems as well as cases from advanced cities overseas, presenting future improvement directions for operators. Swing's CEO Hyungsan Kim personally participated in the on-site training and promised self-regulation activities as an industry-leading company, expressing "I feel sorry to those responsible for traffic and safety in Seoul, a city with a large population."
Swing emphasized that "PM is an essential means of transportation to reduce cars and create a pedestrian-centered advanced urban environment," citing examples from advanced cities in Europe, the United States, and other countries. Among countries classified as developed, only South Korea is experiencing an exponential increase in cars relative to its population, while infrastructure such as parking lots and roads is increasing even faster.
CEO Hyungsan Kim of Swing, based on interviews with urban engineering experts, defined a "livable city as a car-free city" and stressed that the essential PM industry must be established to achieve this. He explained that PM, which has grown as a convenient means of transportation managing the first and last mile, must resolve dysfunctions such as indiscriminate parking, returns, and safety issues caused by riding on sidewalks to be recognized as a true "mobility innovation."
