Clean Air International Forum Opens on the 5th in Suwon... Over 200 Participants from 5 Countries
An international forum on clean air to address fine dust will be held in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 3rd that the '2023 Clean Air International Forum,' an international forum where international organizations, governments of Asia-Pacific countries, academia, and residents will come together to seek cooperation measures to solve the fine dust problem, will be held for two days on the 5th and 6th at the Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency in Yeongtong, Suwon.
The Clean Air International Forum has been held annually since 2018 to respond to transboundary air pollution, and this year's theme is 'Together For Clean Air.'
Gyeonggi Province is conducting the forum in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) to coincide with the UN-designated Blue Sky Day (September 7) week.
The forum will be attended by 200 people from five countries, including domestic and international environmental experts, international organization officials, Asia-Pacific governments, academia, and residents.
The opening ceremony will include an opening address by Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon, a welcome speech by Yoo Young-il, Chair of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council Urban Environment Committee, congratulatory remarks by Dechen Tsering, Director of the UNEP Asia-Pacific Regional Office, Akeem Ali, Director of the WHO Asia-Pacific Centre for Environmental Health, and Ganbold Baasanjav, Director of the UNESCAP Northeast Asia Office.

Cha Seong-su, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Climate Environment and Energy Bureau, stated, "A report on improving air quality in the metropolitan area jointly researched by Gyeonggi Province and UNEP showed that fine dust in Gyeonggi Province has decreased by more than 15% over the past 15 years," adding, "We will use this international forum as an opportunity to present Gyeonggi Province's excellent air-related policies as a cooperation model for air quality improvement in Northeast Asia."
