'National Consensus Constitutional Amendment Public Hearing' to be Held on the 4th at Suwon Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office
The National Consensus Constitutional Amendment Public Hearing will be held on the 4th at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Auditorium in Suwon.
On the 2nd, Gyeonggi Province announced that the Advisory Committee on Constitutional Amendment and Political System Improvement, directly under the Speaker of the National Assembly, will jointly hold the "National Consensus Constitutional Amendment Public Hearing" with the Korean Political Science Association, the Korean Association of Public Law, and the Korean Constitutional Law Association at 2 p.m. in the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Auditorium.
The hearing is organized to explore "feasible constitutional amendments" that both the political circles and the public can agree on as a way to institutionalize decentralization and cooperation through constitutional amendment, and to discuss the enactment of the "Constitutional Amendment Procedure Act" to introduce public participation and a continuous and phased amendment process during the constitutional amendment procedure.
The opening ceremony will begin with an opening address by Lee Ju-young, co-chairman of the advisory committee, and a welcoming speech by Kim Jin-pyo, Speaker of the National Assembly. This will be followed by congratulatory remarks from Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, Yeom Jong-hyun, Chairman of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, and the presidents of the co-hosting academic associations.
The order of presentations and designated discussions will be chaired by Lee Ju-young, co-chairman of the advisory committee. As a presenter, Professor Cho So-young (Pusan National University), an advisory committee member and president of the Korean Association of Public Law, will present on the necessity of constitutional amendment, changes to the presidential term and prime minister appointment method, improvement of the parliamentary immunity from arrest, and the enactment of the Constitutional Amendment Procedure Act.
Following this, discussions will be held with Professor Kang Shin-gu (Ajou University), recommended by the Korean Political Science Association; Professor Jang Cheol-jun (Dankook University), recommended by the Korean Constitutional Law Association; Professor Emeritus Lee Jae-eun (Kyonggi University) and Senior Researcher Cho Sung-ho (Gyeonggi Research Institute), recommended by Gyeonggi Province; and Senior Reporter Sung Han-yong (Hankyoreh Newspaper), an advisory committee member. After the presentations and designated discussions, a Q&A session with the audience will be held to gather a wider range of public opinions.

Meanwhile, after this public hearing held at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, the National Assembly will sequentially hold public hearings in the Gangwon, Chungcheong, Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam, and Honam-Jeju regions.
