The Gyeonggi Resource Circulation Village Creation project is an initiative where residents of single-family and multi-family houses in the province, which lack separate collection facilities and have poor environmental conditions, participate in separate disposal and collection themselves to create a resource circulation economy.
Gyeonggi Province started this project for the first time in Korea in 2012, and as of this year, 27 cities and counties and 137 villages are participating in the project.
Through this project, Gyeonggi Province obtained a total of 3,537 kg of waste separate disposal monitoring results in the first half of this year. When converted to carbon reduction, it amounts to 17,810 kg.
Key cases include Jeongok-ri in Yeoncheon, which established 'Circulation Cafe 1.5,' a hub for resource circulation activities, conducted 'Zero Waste' resident education, operated a 'Plastic Blacksmith' recycling plastic, and held resource circulation case talk shows.
Geumgok 2-ri in Paju painted village murals on the walls of abandoned buildings, provided resource circulation education, and created a collection hub for waste materials, while Soha 1-dong in Gwangmyeong established a separate disposal system including recycling education and collection of milk cartons and coffee grounds.
