Father Who Killed Two Teenage Children Says "Had Bad Relationship with Their Mother"
Purchased Sleeping Pills a Month Before the Crime
Police Consider It a Planned Offense
A man in his 50s, who took his two teenage children to a mountain and killed them, told the police that he committed the crime due to conflicts with his mother.
According to the Gimhae Western Police Station on the 30th, the father in his 50s, Mr. A, stated during the police investigation that the motive for the murder was "because he did not have a good relationship with his mother." He said that his mother, Mrs. B, in her 70s, had been tormenting and abusing the children, which caused conflicts. Mr. A testified that he initially intended to leave the world alone, but feared that if his children remained, they would continue to suffer harm from Mrs. B, which led him to commit the crime.
The police said they cannot confirm the motive for the crime solely based on Mr. A’s statement. Mr. A’s younger sister testified during the police investigation that Mrs. B had never tormented her grandchildren. The police also believe that Mr. A did not have any economic problems such as debts.
It was revealed that Mr. A had been planning the crime for about a month. He visited hospitals several times and obtained sleeping pills in advance. It was also understood that he applied for a field trip at the school his children attended before the crime in order to create final memories with them. Before the crime, Mr. A visited places such as Namhae in Gyeongnam and Busan with his children, and on the day before the crime, he stopped by Busan to show them the high school he graduated from and spent the last night at a hotel.
After being arrested by the police, Mr. A initially exercised his right to remain silent, but after the police persuaded him by mentioning issues such as the children’s funeral, he finally spoke that day. In the subsequent police investigation, he expressed feelings of guilt and remorse for being the only survivor, the police explained. Once an arrest warrant is issued for Mr. A, the police plan to summon Mrs. B as a witness to verify the facts related to Mr. A’s statements. Profilers will also be deployed to investigate the exact motive for the murder based on Mr. A’s psychological state.
