Nongshim Inserts QR Code for Visually Impaired on 'Shin Ramyun Big Bowl'
Scheduled to Apply to 10 Cup Noodle Products by Mid-September
Nongshim recently announced on the 29th that it has inserted QR codes containing product-related information on Shin Ramyun Big Bowl to improve convenience for visually impaired people. Nongshim plans to expand the application of QR codes to 10 representative cup noodle products (Shin Ramyun Big Bowl·Cup, Shin Ramyun Black Bowl, Shrimp Soup Big Bowl·Cup, Fried Udon Big Bowl·Cup, Sari Gomtang Big Bowl, Yukgaejang Big Bowl Noodles, Jjapagetti Beombuk) by mid-September.
Nongshim chose QR codes instead of Braille to enhance the ease of information acquisition for the visually impaired while delivering a larger amount of information. According to the Disability Survey results announced by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, less than 10% of the visually impaired population can use Braille, and most obtain information through voice using smartphones.
The QR code for visually impaired guidance applied by Nongshim is located in the same place on all products, just above the tear-off part of the cup noodle lid, making it easy to find. Scanning it connects to a webpage containing the product name, cooking instructions, allergen information, precautions, customer consultation guide, expiration date, and more. Visually impaired people can acquire information using the text-to-speech function built into their smartphones.
