"Connecting Generations" pairs a total of 120 youths (ages 19-39) and seniors (65 and older) in one-on-one mentoring. The detailed programs include ▲1:1 mentoring program ▲Learn Together ▲One-day Generation Empathy Program.
The 1:1 mentoring program "Can We Become Friends?" involves 20 youths and 20 seniors each. Starting from the 22nd until September 19th, it is held every Tuesday at Yongsan Youth Jium (17 Seobinggo-ro, Public Facility Building 3rd floor) in two groups: morning and afternoon.
The program proceeds in the order of ▲art workshop ▲intergenerational empathy communication ▲fieldwork planning ▲field experience ▲sharing results. Facilitators assist in smooth communication of concerns between generations.
Yoo Ji-hyang (30), who participated on the 22nd, said, "Although seniors and youths are from different generations, we live in the same era," expressing her anticipation to "take this opportunity to learn the wisdom of life."
Gwak Un-ja (75) showed willingness to communicate, saying, "I am grateful that young people took time out for us."
The "Learn Together" program, "Tell Me, Senior! Tell Me, Junior!" is a one-day lecture held every Thursday from the 24th until September 14th at Yongsan Youth Jium and Yongsan Senior Welfare Center (16 Dokseodang-ro 11-gil). Each session pairs 10 youths and 10 seniors in teams of two.
The lectures focus on cooking and online content creation. In the cooking class, seniors act as instructors to make Tteokgalbi and Songpyeon together. In the online content creation class, youths serve as instructors to create video and audio content.
The One-day Generation Empathy Program will be held on September 21st from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Yongsan Senior Welfare Center. The 120 youths and seniors who participated in the previous two programs will gather to enjoy recreation and community dance.
