Busan City Holds 'Global Youth Climate Hope Challenge' Kick-off Ceremony
Youth from 16 Countries Discuss Solutions to Climate Change
On the 26th at 1 PM, Busan City held the launch ceremony for the ‘Global Youth Climate Hope Challenge’ at the Asti Hotel.
The ‘Global Youth Climate Hope Challenge’ is an activity where future generations from various countries form teams to seek solutions to climate change under the theme of ‘Nature and Sustainable Life (Climate Change Response),’ and present their findings at the ‘10th International Conference for the 2030 Busan World Expo Bid’ scheduled for September.
The theme of the challenge aligns with the main and sub-themes of the 2030 Busan World Expo, which South Korea’s Busan is bidding to host, as well as the aspirational values of the ‘Busan Initiative’ proposed as the bid strategy, naturally fostering a shared understanding and support for the bid among participating youth and international conference attendees.
This launch ceremony marked the beginning of the ‘Global Youth Climate Hope Challenge’ and included sharing the vision of the 2030 Busan World Expo, a special lecture on climate change, and an orientation related to the upcoming challenge activities.
At the ceremony, over 60 youth participants from 16 countries including Korea, Vietnam, India, and Rwanda attended, along with Kang Cheol-ho, Chair of the Busan City Council’s Special Committee for the 2030 Busan World Expo Bid, and Jo Yu-jang, Head of the Busan City 2030 Expo Promotion Headquarters.
Starting from this launch ceremony, the youth participants will engage in intensive team discussions for three weeks until the international conference, seeking creative and practical solutions to climate change, and will present their final results at the ‘10th International Conference.’
In particular, nine experts will participate as mentors to support the participants in deepening and developing their presentations.

Jo Yu-jang, Head of the Busan City 2030 Expo Promotion Headquarters, said, “The biggest differentiating factor of the 2030 Busan World Expo from other competing cities is the ‘Busan Initiative.’ It is very meaningful that future generations from various countries are interested in and contemplating climate change mitigation, one of the initiatives proposed by Busan. We expect them to actively contribute fresh and youthful ideas on climate change issues at the September international conference, and we will actively support the incorporation of the ideas generated into the Busan Initiative.”
