'Creating a Delivery Culture Without Single-Use Items'... Incheon City Supports Reusable Container Delivery
Incheon City has launched support for reusable container delivery to establish a delivery culture free of disposable products.
The city signed a business agreement with private delivery app companies (Baedal Minjok, Yogiyo, Ttaenggyeoyo, etc.) to promote the use of reusable delivery containers, and announced that starting from the 24th, it will begin providing reusable container support and collection services to delivery restaurants.
Reusable container delivery works as follows: when a restaurant applies to participate, the subcontractor (Itgreen) provides stainless steel airtight containers at a price similar to that of disposable containers, collects the reusable containers after delivery, cleans them through a 7-step process, and returns them to the restaurant.
Consumers order food in reusable containers through the delivery app and, without the hassle of handling leftover food or washing dishes, simply close the container lid, place it in the delivery bag, and leave it at the door. When returning, they can request collection by scanning the QR code attached to the delivery bag.

The city supports the subcontractor with a usage fee of 1,000 KRW per order for the collection and cleaning of reusable containers, and consumers can use the service free of charge. The city expects that the introduction of the reusable container delivery service will suppress the use of over 1 million disposable products annually and reduce disposable waste by more than 10 tons.

An official from Incheon City stated, "Restaurants participating in the reusable container delivery service will be exposed as stores that offer reusable container orders on the delivery app, which can improve their image as 'eco-friendly restaurants.'" He added, "Using reusable containers in delivery restaurants with high disposable product usage will also help establish an eco-friendly consumption culture."
