Sejong City "Increase in Local Consumption... 15% Rise in Q2 This Year Compared to Last Year"

View original imageSejong City announced on the 24th that, according to an analysis of card sales data, the scale of local consumption in the second quarter (April to June) of this year increased by 15% compared to the same period last year.
The card sales data analysis was conducted by examining the sales status of Hana Card (credit card, Yeominjeon) used in the region, looking into card sales and consumption changes by industry.
As a result, the card sales amount in the second quarter of this year was 1.4451 trillion KRW, an increase of 189.3 billion KRW (15%) compared to the same period last year. Sejong City also explained that compared to the first quarter, the second quarter sales increased by 31.2 billion KRW (2.2%).
By industry, the sector with the largest increase in sales was Korean cuisine general restaurants, which increased by 20.7 billion KRW compared to the same period last year. Using the same criteria, general clinics increased by 6.63 billion KRW, and chain convenience stores by 6.08 billion KRW, showing significant sales growth.
Conversely, industries that saw a decrease in sales compared to the same period last year included gas station operations (8.39 billion KRW), general administrative support for government agencies (4.69 billion KRW), and retail sales of household liquid fuel (950 million KRW).
Sejong City also analyzed changes in the commercial area near the Singsing Market Saerom branch, which opened last January. The results showed that the commercial area within a 500m radius of the Singsing Market Saerom branch increased from 9.09 billion KRW before opening (first half of last year) to 12.76 billion KRW after opening (first half of this year), an estimated increase of 3.67 billion KRW.
By industry, meat retail saw the largest sales increase of 1.38 billion KRW (103%), followed by supermarkets (1.06 billion KRW, 36.9%), other large general retail (850 million KRW, 26%), and other food and beverage-focused retail (380 million KRW, 23.6%).
Based on the card sales analysis results, Sejong City plans to identify changes in the sales status of local commercial areas, understand the factors behind these changes, and develop administrative services needed by citizens.
